It is far superior to the arctic with a higher output and much better divergence. The host is machined perfectly. Overall, the unit is very high quality and functions flawlessly at this point. i am an owner of some laserprojectors and 2 years ago i ve bought the Viper 75mW because i wanted a portable Laser for short use. The Viper Series is very good and the beam is still as bright as new! Because Dragonlasers is selling VERY GOOD products i was looking foward to buy again from them and as i get to known about the Spartan 1W i just decided to buy it and this was a very good decision!
The build quality is just awesome and its a little bit bigger and heavier than i expected but this is definitely a positive aspect!
The beam is VERY visible at night and daylight because of that special dark blue color and that extremly high energy. It took just 4 seconds to burn a whole into a cd case and only 1 sec to burn through thin black or just dark-colored plastics.
I ve also tested the visibility of the beam from a bigger distance at a clear night (there really was no fog) and i could see the beam in a distance of 2,5 kilometers and its cleary blue... that was just awesome! All in all a perfect high powered blue laser that can be highly recommended!
Also a big THANKS to Frank from Dragonlasers for answering my e-mails so fast and giving me lots of informations about batteries and the laser itselfs.
Shipping Time (7 Days) and Tracking was nice too.
Author: Andrew L Canada July 2010 I received my 447nm Spartan 1 Watt within 21 days of ordering and being delivered to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. What an amazing laser. The beam spot is even visible approx. 160 meters/380ft using a laser range finder) on trees in the daytime!
The 1 Watt Spartan feels and looks good when held. It does not look like a "toy", but rather like a military tool. I was impressed with Tim Davies battery review and purchased from the Battery Superstore (California) the "6 RCR123A 3.0V 750mAh LiFePO4 Rechargeable Batteries with Smart Charger Kit" for $26.99 US.
I had done a lot of research for a 1 Watt laser after learning about Wicked Lasers Arctic and found it's only other competitor was Dragonlaser. The "drama" with customer relations and "hit & miss" quality with Wicked Laser Arctic had me running to Dragonlaser 1 Watt Spartan. I am so happy with my Spartan that I read Wicked Lasers Facebook and Laser Community websites like a "Comic" book.
I prefer the simple on and off switch because it's all business. I have another device that has a single multifunction switch and find it very annoying either to get it on, dimmed, flashing and off. That's 3 of the 4 switch press's fom just for on to off!
Frank and Adam of Dragonlasers always returned my e-mails and in a timely manner. If there was ever a delay they wrote to me before I wrote them. I am looking forward to my next purchase from them.

The laser body is made of solid metal and black in color. The shipping was fast and arrived five days after they had shipped it. The laser lights matches, pops balloons and burns plain cardboard very easily. I am glad I had previously purchased a pair of protective goggles, as the laser dot is overwelmingly bright. But the goggles make it possible to see what you are doing when you are burning things up close. The laser beam is very visible in both the day and night. And I am very pleased with the diffraction gratings which are great for creating awe inspiring effects. Their support has been very helpful and I would not hesitate to purchase from them again.

The Spartan is built to last and the best 1 Watt Blue laser you can buy, also, no silly smart swtich, you simply turn it on for full power or off simple as that, no hassles of combinations to get to full power. I also bought the Safety glasses to go with my Spartan, they work great, and also work very well with my green lasers.
As for the service, all I can say it's fantasic, and all emails get answered, took about 2 weeks to get my Spartan, so very good service indeed.
The thing I did not like was the Spartan host, but when I received my Spartan then knew I was getting quality and made to last.
Would I recommend the Spartan, and Dragon Lasers? The answer is a big Yes.

It also has incredible burning power, lighting red tipped matches almost instantly! I ordered the Blue 1W Spartan from DragonLasers because they are the best laser company and they have the best customer service. I've ordered from them before and will continue to in the future.
Author: Luka H Slovenia August 2010 I bought the Spartan 1 Watt blue laser because I have good experience with Dragon lasers and because of the incredible low price. It is my second laser. I bought the 55 mW green Viper 3 months before that. I am already impressed with the Viper but the Spartan is far, far better. The built quality is outstandig, it is heavy, strong, precisely built and most of all it looks good! The biggest difference between the Viper and the Spartan is the beam width thus it is far more visible in the night sky. And the power!!! If you are not in a hurry, you can cut a hole in a CD. Poping baloons is so easy it takes all the fun away. I also bought the rechargable RCR123A batteries so I do not have to worry about buying new batteries all the time. So, is it worth the price? Defenately !!!

The Spartan has a nice, compact design. And the beam quality is very, very good.
Compared to the beautiful 40mW 470nm Spartan, which I also own, this beam is much brighter and of course 10 times more powerful.
which is easily tested by lighting a match or making any dark colored object smoke ...
I compared it directly to a 1W 447nm laser from another company (WL), and the 400mW Spartan has an almost equal burning power, thanks to its much better divergence and thinner beam. On top of that, the batteries last longer in the Spartan and -as said before- it's beam quality is infinitely better than the "other" laser. Safety goggles are very much recommended with this kind of power though !
Be careful and don't careless point this beam around you.
Of course, after working with this 400mW beauty, I could not resist also ordering the 1W Spartan

Dragon Lasers provided good communication after my order was placed, and I received my laser on time as promised. The exterior of the laser is rugged metal -- it seems solidly built. As an amateur physicist (college level, but not a total geek), I do not currently have the ability to independently measure the laser's strength. But holy hell, I cannot imagine wanting to use anything more powerful than this! This is absolutely not a toy, and I am definitely satisfied that I got my money's worth. It's also amazing to see all of the crap that is floating around in the air inside and outside my house -- the beam doesn't need artificial fog to be seen where I live. It's a solid thick blue line, just as described by others.

I ordered the 200mW Aurora laser pointer from Dragonlasers. The laser came quickly and safely. I played with a little bit and to my impression it is a very good laser. It has a nice beam and a round dot.
After palying with it a bit, I realized that I want a more powerful laser such as the 1W Spartan, so I emailed customer service and they said I can return it with no problem, pay an additional price for the Spartan and they will soon send me my new Spartan.
So I sent the 200mW Aurora laser laser back and after two weeks Dragonlasers contacted me and told me that it has been recieved and after I paid the additional price for the Spartan they sent it to me immediately.
My new Spartan arrived quickly and safely and I am happy with it.
This is what I call a good service!

Upon receipt of the Spartan Laser I immediately noticed the solid quality of construction. The metal casing is machined well and the threaded parts have a smooth fit. The beam operates at the advertised power level. Be aware that the beam on this product has some divergence at longer distances. One other thing to note, the quality of the manufacturer is as important as the quality of the product. One time I had a minor issue with a dragonlasers product and they were quick to offer an RMA number and had a reasonable turnaround time with the repair. Be assured this company stands behind their products and will take care of you as a customer.

I messed up on the web page in my order but a quick email to the tech support contact on the page had my order fixed up and on the way in just a few minutes. The order arrived relatively quickly (a couple of weeks from order to delivery). I ordered two lasers and they both work perfectly.
I am a new hobbyist with lasers so I appreciated the information on the site warning about the use of glasses which I ordered with my lasers. I have impressed many friends and family with these and always with the glasses on (I bought extra sets). I purchased the mirror/optics sets separately and they produce some amazing light shows! I have done burning (burned through a CD case in seconds, and distance burns up to 5 feet away, and many others as well like lighting matches). This is definitely a keep out of reach of children type device but is very fun. Keep up the good work Dragon lasers and please let me know when you have a focusing or other accessories for the 1W Spartan!

Blue Lasers, Dragon vs Wicked: I've had the opportunity to play with both. Details to follow, but if you want to put the laser to work, the Dragon is the better choice. It's simple cylindrical exterior is easy to mount, and the butt mounted power button is easily accessible when mounted.
The Dragon comes with nothing, no instructions, nothing to say what batteries it takes, not even the polarity of the batteries when you put them in. I took a $15 chance and bought what I thought were the right ones, but then put them in backwards. It worked after correcting that. First target, a discarded cigarette butt that ignited almost instantly. Cool!
Wicked, when they use the right diode, burns too, but mostly they ship the 400mW version ( IF they ever ship anything at all! ). Dragon has 2 versions, the 400mW and the ~1W. I ordered the ~1W.
Both are DANGEROUS! These are not toys and can easily be used, even accidentally, as weapons. The Wicked's SmartSwitch, while a PITA to use, is like locking up your guns. The Dragon has no such safety feature, take the batteries out and store them separately.
It really looks like the dragon will do what I want. I played with various lenses, several were promising but 1 stands out. It has a *very* short focal length and focuses the beam to a pinpoint, instantly burning wood. By varying the distance slightly, the spot size and therefore the power denisty is easily controlable. I can engrave with this!
It is dangerous, it's not a toy by any means, nor is it a laser pointer. I'll admit I'm playing around with it, but I intend to use it in my jewelry business, it has a few applications there. I bought laser safety glasses too. The biggest danger is to the eyes. I worked with lasers at Burr Brown, got shot in the back of my right hand by a 50W YAG laser when a coworker pulled a practical joke on me.
Author: Jason L USA Nov 2010 I liked my 75mW so much, I came back and bought a 1W Blue Spartan series. That thing is a beast! Just look on Youtube for burning demos. Also look for comparison to a certain other laser that used to call itself a light saber. The Spartan blows that laser away, and is actually at least $25 cheaper after shipping. The body is like a robust Maglight, and the brightness easily competes with any Green laser in the sky. (Green appears brighter than blue due to perception) This is the big dog. Any time it's not shining into the sky, it should be used with glasses. Light a match? Child's play. This thing lights the wood the match is made of! Unlike the competitor, it actually puts out a bit more than 1W until the batteries conch-out at about 15 minutes of use. Then the dip puts it right on the 1W line.
Please watch the videos on Youtube for the power of the 1W Spartan so you understand not to use this thing without thinking about where it's pointed. Seriously, this thing is not a toy! I don't even let people touch it unless they prove to me they understand the dangers and precautions. It's just too dangerous, which is why it's so dang fun!

I am afraid I will probably not buy more laser products simply because the 1W Spartan laser and eyewear you sent me are so absolutely perfect and beautiful that I do not see any way to improve on them. Meanwhile, I've got myself a small glass lens that focusses the light into a tiny spot for improved burning and an additional stationary power supply that lets me control the current exactly. I am 30 years old but I feel like a little boy when playing around with this thing and cutting little windows into all kinds of materials and then see them catch fire. Anyway, delivery speed, pricing (no customs fee) and quality of delivered goods were top notch. I really could not be happier.

There is no comparison. But I will try to explain. The customer service with Dragon Lasers is the best I have ever received. Dealing with 1 person who is very helpful and polite. Every email I sent was answered ASAP.
My Spartan Laser is sleek, light, small & extremely powerful. In a one on one comparison my WL Arctic Spyder 3. My Spartan has very little Beam divergence. It is Brighter , hotter, and more fun to use. It burns through anything much Faster & Better than any other 1 watt blue laser I have ever seen. Burning the information from the labels of plastic prescription bottles completely and fast as a marker.
There are no lenses to change to achieve this fine quality burn. No silly Smart Switch to fumble with. The intense blue beam is achieved using a 6 volt system not 3.7 volts. Rechargeable batteries keep it topped off and ready to vaporize anything. I have found it will even burn through light colored material very fast. Material that would reflect a lesser Laser beam.
Out of all the lasers I have used this one is my favorite. Up close or far away it is very effective.
This company is also my favorite to deal with. They have a 1 week return for any reason policy. They stand behind their word with Performance & Quality.
For anyone looking for a Blue 1 watt laser, I recommend Dragon Lasers Spartan as the best there is.

It can burn A LOT of things instantly and will always impress any person who sees it. The color is really beautiful and you can see it for miles and miles when it's dark, and for the ones that didn't know: this laser outputs more than 1W and stays, seriously!. When you grab it, you feel POWER in your hands, and I'm sure you will not get disappointed in any way if you buy it. Have you ever feel that you don't have words to describe how awesome is something? Author: Jeff F USA Oct 2010 To say I'm satisfied with my Spartan would be a gross understatement. The unit is simply perfect - from the sleek, tough exterior, to the beautiful beam it emits. After spending many months waiting for an overhyped laser from a different company which will remain nameless (but who's name shared the title of a certain Oz-related Broadway Musical), and many (broken) promises from said company, I jumped over to Dragon and purchased my Spartan. It was a fantastic choice, because it is a fantastic piece of equipment. It is every bit as powerful as advertised, a joy to use, and it's understated design slips into a pocket for ease of transportation. If you're considering a laser in this power range, do yourself a favor, and go with Dragon. You won't regret it.

My first purchase from Dragonlasers, a 1 Watt Spartan blue, has confirmed numerous recommendations (from laser enthusiasts, mainly on www.laserpointers.com) i.e. Dragonlasers are possibly, if not, the best company to purchase lasers from. Power figures are tested by numerous forum experts (that have the correct technical equipment and know-how) and either meet or even exceed the quoted figures (which is a rarity in the laser industry.)

The body feels nice and heavy and doesn't get very warm, the beam is very clear and bright.
For burning experiments the safety glasses are excellent and give you sufficient protection but you can still see the dot to aim the beam.
I use it with reacharchable LiFePO batteries which give a maximum voltage of 3.2v (never use regular NiMh recharchables because they peak too high)
1W of (portable) laser output for less than $250 is very good value for your money.

You get fantastic light split in prismas and glas spheres, but be safe and don't forget to buy protecting glasses.
Author: Kiarash H Canada Dec 2010 I purchased the 1 watt Spartan laser pointer a while ago, and I was thoroughly impressed. The laser itself is obviously high quality and very sturdy. The laser can easily burn through paper but not through batteries. 2 batteries will give you about 20 hours of time before they run out. The safety glasses are also great and completely stop the laser when it hits the glasses. The laser is a great product and good value for your money and it has never disappointed me with loose connections, an underpowered beam or any other malfunction.

Several years ago I noticed many powerfull lasers, that can burn plastic, they were cool, but not much, so I forgot about idea to buy them. But at the end of 2010 I watched videos on youtube with new lasers and was impressed! New lasers was much more powerful and I decided to buy one of the most powerful handled laser: Spartan 1W. Delivery was very fast (about 2-3 weeks) and soon I was able to impress all my friends with laser beam, passed through difraction gratings in smoke. If you want powerful laser, I definitely recommend Spartan 1W, it worth your while!

Author: Stephen R USA Dec 2010 This laser has created serious laser envy with a friend who purchased another brand. The simple on/off switch is very useful for ease of operation. The power is impressive and has been useful for zapping some flying insects that found their way into the house, especially if they are still for a couple of seconds. Several wasps have been incapacitated while trying to build a nest at my front door. It is highly visible in the daytime for the distance of at least half a block on most surfaces, and much farther on anything reflective. At night it is beyond awesome. This laser readily chars most organic surfaces that are not very reflective, in a matter of seconds, like dead leaves.
It is way too powerful to be used as an indoor pointer or in a casual manner.
Battery life with fresh batteries was better than expected, but rechargeables are definitely the way to go.
It is also powerful enough to cause unintended damage, so should only be used with a constant focus on safety in mind. This is definitely an impressive tool for the advanced laser experimenter.
It would be a real plus if Dragonlasers were to include 2 sets of rechargeable batteries and a charger with the laser, but it is not difficult to find these on line.
Dragonlasers was most helpful in pre-purchase discussions of capabilities and battery requirements. My order was accepted and processed in a timely manner, so I would definitely recommend them to others.

The laser arrived safely and securely wrapped. The laser itself is well crafted and reassuringly sturdy, the screw in cap for the emitter is a sensible idea to avoid damage when not in use. With a simple on and off pop on pop off switch inset into the back end. The laser is easy to use and there is no risk of inadvertently turning it on whilst it is in a pocket or bag so it does not need and safety switch. The power of this laser is incredible and puts to shame any other laser I have seen- great fun and a must for the laser enthusiast.

I have seen many videos about this laser on internet, and I was curious to try it. So I came on the site of Dragon Lasers, and I met Frank, very patient, kind and quick in responses. In about one week I had this laser at home and..WOW!! The power of this laser is incredible, all you can see on internet videos is true, it burns paper, matches (both sides!), leather, wood, it melts plastic, pop balloons instantly...you can do everything, your fantasy is the limit.
At short range the beam is very powerful as it is, but at long distance the beam tends to diverge. So I suggest to buy also the Beam Expander (I am waiting for it) to focus the beam at any distance you want.
I also bought a pair of safety goggles because the dot is very, very bright, I suggest you to do the same.
Do you want the most powerful handheld laser at the best price? The 1 watt Spartan blue laser is the right one! Dragon Lasers is the right site! And Frank is the kindest person to ask any question! Many thanks for all!!

The spartan arrived faster and better packaged then it's Wicked Lasers counterpart. Not to mention the Arctic soon burnt out, but my Spartan is still burning strong. Dragon Lasers definately sells the superior product, with superior services.

I can light cigarettes very quickly and melt plastics and pop balloons instantly. the batteries are rechargeable, which is an great way to save money. I really do recommend the laser safety glasses. The dot is so intense to look at. Now i know everyone is thinking "what about wicked Lasers!" well I'm too afraid to buy anything from them, because what i have read about what their customers are saying is that some pointers don't burn, to dim or not work at all, and their customer service is crap. I will always stick with dragon lasers. best customer service i've seen ever "online" and the name really sounds good to say slowly. I can't wait to get the laser beam expander. All my emails were replied to and i could track my laser as it came to me. I would reccomend this laser or dragon lasers for there quality products and great customer service

I bought 1W Spartan Laser from DragonLasers. The Laser is absolutely awesome. I like its strong visibility during the night, I can not wait until they develop the new expander. I did a lot of carpenter work during the summer holiday in my grand mom΄s house, and I placed (burned) a little nice signature on all wooden peaces :-) The laser is very strong, that is why I ordered laser glasses and they work very well. I am satisfied with DragonLasers, I am planning to buy some more stuff from them. As I mentioned the next thing will be the expander.
Author: David K USA June 2011 To be honest Dragon Lasers was not my first choice. However after waiting six and a half months with continuing assurances that my ordered laser would be shipped "soon" I gave up and cancelled my order.
I ordered the Dragon Laser one watt model and in two weeks it arrived at my Post Office. It is the most useful, practical and well engineered high powered laser I have seen. It has a simple on/off switch which doesen't require memorizing a complex set of steps to turn it on or off. It has a simple safety system which consists of a screw in plug which assures that unauthorized users will not have an easy way to access the device.
The power seems honest although I don't have a way to measure it directly and it will operate for long periods without getting too warm. It appears to use battery power efficiently. I haven't had to replace my original set of batteries yet and have used it a lot.
All in all I am very pleased with Dragon Lasers honesty, customer service and product quality. Their prices are fair and shipping
is fast and secure. I will consider Dragon Lasers first next time I need any laser or accessories.

As I looked at 2 companies, Wicked Lasers and Dragon Lasers, I noticed that Dragon lasers offered a wider variety and selection of lasers than their competitor and for a cheaper price. I liked the futuristic style of the competitor, but was unable to reach them by phone or email and could not place an order online with the competitor, so I went to Dragon Lasers and did a little more investigating, I was not impressed with the look of the laser in the pictures online, it looked simple, like a flashlight or something, but reading through some testimonials and doing research I found nothing but horror stories about the competition and good things about Dragon Lasers.
I decided to order with Dragon Lasers because of their lower price and the various testimonials about them from different sources. The ordering process was simple and the unit shipped and delivered without a problem. During the whole process I received email notifications of the order being placed and received and processed and shipped, I never called or emailed Dragon Lasers because everything ran smoothly and I really did not see a need to contact them for anything.
When the laser arrived, it looked better than the picture, it still looks like a flashlight, but a sturdy flashlight like something that would be military issued, it is a very nice and sturdy laser and I am impressed with its performance. I have not tried popping any balloons because that is expected, but with a little time about 3-4 minutes this laser burns through a wooden twig around 1/4 inch (0.5 cm) thick. It has good range because I could burn through leaves from trees at 5-10 feet away. I love it, its is nicely and simply crafted, has really good power and feels natural in my hand.
The only down side is that batteries are more expensive than normal batteries because they are not regular AA or AAA, but you can always get rechargeables and a charger and everything should be good
I would recommend Dragon Lasers over their competition, good service from the few emails that I received that made me feel at ease, good product, good experience.
I also recommend to buy the protective eye wear, the Spartan 1W is very powerfull and very bright

The unit is simple yet solidly built with no nuisance features. The deep blue beam is especially noticeable in humid or smoky air at night and often gets positive comments from others about how 'cool' it looks. The laser safety googles are great too and indispensible when working
with it at close quarters and burning things etc.. I highly reccommend the Spartan 447nm 1 watt laser from Dragonlasers!
